Rick Roufus wins his second straight MMA fight

Former Wisconsin resident and Lions Den fighter, Rick Roufus won his second straight fight in as many weekends when he faced off against Bobby Martinez at Lucky Star Casino in Concho, Oklahoma. According to Roufus, the judges scored the bout (30-26), (30-27), and (30-26.5). With the win, Roufus improved his MMA record to (3-2). The fight was held in the C3 Fights organization based out of Oklahoma, an organization that Roufus had previously fought for in March. The card also featured UFC and Pride veteran Mark “Smashing Machine” Kerr who ended up losing via guillotine choke to undefeated fighter Tracy Wilson.

You may be familiar with Roufus’ opponent, Bobby Martinez of Team Truth in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He is a BodogFight veteran and most recently fought in Wisconsin at Gladiators 48: Season’s Beatings when he faced off against Rob Smith of Roufusport. Smith handed him his sixth straight loss in December when he submitted Martinez with strikes at 2:02 in round one. Prior to fighting Rick Roufus, Martinez lost via armbar to Ron Fields one week earlier. Martinez has fought other notable fighters in Sean Salmon and Adam Maciejewski. He holds a win over local fighter Warren Kikaba and his record according to Sherdog is (3-11).

Roufus has fought every month since he began his MMA career in February. In his debut, Roufus lost via first round armbar to former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Maurice Smith at a Strikeforce show in Smith’s home state of Washington. He then rebounded with a unanimous decision victory over Michael Buell in Oklahoma in March at C3 Fights. In April, Roufus lost a decision to Canadian kickboxer and K-1 legend, Michael McDonald in Romania at the Strike Fighting Championships. In May, Roufus returned to Wisconsin and knocked out BJ Lacy with a spinning back fist.

Rick Roufus will return to action when he fights on the Combat USA show on June 28th in Harris, Michigan.More information will be released when it becomes available or go to http://www.ncafights.com/.

Article Update: According to a voicemail by Rick Roufus, the Michael McDonald fight that I referred to earlier was an exhibition match and should not be marked as a defeat on his professional MMA record. He stated that the group did not have judges or a timekeeper and that all parties involved agreed to call it a no contest. I therefore have changed the (3-2) mark to reflect (3-1). While Roufus does not agree with the decision, he stated he is fighting to get the decision overturned.
