Brandon “The Truth” Vera sports an MMA record of (8-1) and is (4-1) in the UFC. He most recently lost a unanimous decision to Tim Sylvia at UFC 77 in Cincinnati, Ohio. In that fight Vera broke his hand in the first round. He has been in the news recently as his former manager Mark Dion is in the process of suing him stemming from a contract dispute that shelved the fighter from action for nearly a year. Prior to his hiatus, Vera rattled off wins against BJJ black belts Frank Mir, Fabiano Scherner, and Assuerio Silva. He also scored an impressive knock out against Miletich fighter and former Ohio State football player Justin Eilers.

Vera is training out in Maryland for this fight with the famous Lloyd Irvin. He has some interesting videos located on his blog. His high altitude-training mask is the most interesting, it has the ability to simulate an environment of 12,500 ft above sea level. Werdum is a veteran of Pride FC and holds wins over Roman Zentsov and Alistair Overeem in the organization. He also holds a win over Aleksander Emelianenko at 2H2H in November of 2006. Werdum has good striking ability and trains regularly with Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic in Croatia where he owns a BJJ gym.

Wisconsin Combat Sports will be interviewing Justin Lemke after his return from Vera’s camp and prior to his title fight on June 21. Stay tuned for the details.
